For the girls' February break, we took a quick trip to Key Largo for a few days of sun and fun (and a chance to escape one of the worst winters in Connecticut history!)
We stayed on Key Largo and took a day trip to Key West too. When we left home, it was snowing. When we returned, it was the infamous "wintery mix." In between were five fabulous days in the sun! |

One of the first things the girls wanted to do as soon as we checked into the hotel was hit the pool! |
Jonna was like a fish in the pool. |
Joelle loved wearing her goggles and trying to talk under water. |
In both pools were these giant floats that drifted into the waterfall. Jonna, Joelle and two new friends had a blast. |

Into the waterfall! |
Emma, Jonna, Joelle and Maelin quickly became fast friends. A few times through the waterfall will do that to a girl. |

Posing poolside. |

Here's the pool. Nice view, eh? Much nicer than the 6+ feet of snow outside our house! |

We took an enviro tour of the Everglades one morning. It was very cool. We learned how the islands were formed, about birds that roost there as well, how conservation is practiced there and what sort of fish are in the Keys. |

Joelle shows off one of the hermit crabs she dredged up on the boat trip. She also (with a little help from daddy) caught a sea horse in the sea grass. The entire area we toured was only about 5-7 feet deep and crystal clear. |

All of us on the boat. As we were heading back to the hotel, we saw two manatees swimming in the channel. |
On our way to Key West, we stopped in Marathon Key for lunch. Joelle was adventurous and learned she loves conch fritters! She also discovered a love of mahi mahi and stone crab claws. |
As we wandered Key West, we walked down to where this Coast Guard cutter was docked. |

Greetings from Key West! |

A pretty sunset view from our hotel. |
The girls enjoyed the shallow water on the bayside beach at the hotel. |
Jonna could walk quite far out since it was so shallow. |
Jonna found a starfish on our last full day in Key Largo. Joelle wanted to bring it home and was sad when we told her he had to stay in Florida. |
Jonna starts a creation on the beach. |

Bathing beauties! |
